Bible Speller — Major Update Coming Soon

Major Update In The Works!

I'm working on a major overhaul to the game. Hopefully it will be released within the coming weeks/months but there is no way to know for sure. I will occasionally post here as progress is made.

Sneak Peak!

Here is what I currently have for the new main screen. It still needs a lot of work but yesterday I started dropping the art into place to get a feel for how it could look.

The scene opens to a grassy ledge with an infested anthill to the left and a honey bee off to the right. The main two game play modes will still be "Random" mode and "Sorted" mode. Two buttons at the bottom will allow users to open the settings and see player stats.

Player Stats Might Be Reset!?

During this major overhaul I am moving away from using Android Studio and into using Unity for development. This means going from Java/Kotlin to C# as the backend programming language. Android Studio and Unity have different ways of doing things and there is a strong possibility that when this update comes out all current stats for existing users of the old version might reset to zeros. I'm trying to keep this from happening but there might not be anything I can do.

The good news is with the new version I will be able to do a lot more with the stats than I was doing before. So it should go from the simple list of text to some prettier, snazzier stuff... eventually. This probably won't be the focus of the first rollout with the new version but over time I should be able to work it in like I had always wanted to with the old version.

Random Mode

Random mode will be keeping the same general idea of randomly picking one book from the Bible, showing the book before and the book after and then spelling the book name to guess it. However, now it is starting to get a little more "game" like. I'm only starting to sketch out the graphics now so the mockup shown here is simply to give an idea of what is going on but hopefully a lot will change still.

The idea is that you are trying to fill a jar full of honey as you use the letters at the bottom of the screen to fill in the missing book titles above. So when you do correct things like completing a book name, bees will appear from the beehive and start dropping honey into the jar. As you make mistakes ants will appear from the anthill and start carrying your honey away. The more books you get right the faster you will fill your honey jar.

Right now I'm thinking there will be two bookshelves in the middle of the screen. The top shelf holding the old testament books and the new testament on the lower shelf. (In the mockup shown here there is a single green line for all books from Genesis to Revelation, but that should change.) The idea behind the bookshelves is that as you play you can visually see where the books fit in the overall order of the books. Thus adding another dimension to learning the books of the Bible that didn't exist in the old version.

Sorted Mode

I haven't started working on the new sorted mode yet but here is what I am thinking for it at the moment. It will be mostly using the same setup as random mode except there won't be an anthill, honey jar, or beehive. Instead the ants will be marching across the screen from right to left carrying the books across as they go. The player will hit the correct buttons for the letters of each book in order from Genesis through Revelation. If the letters are entered in time the bees will carry the book off from the ants and place it up on the shelves. Any book titles not completed in time will be missed and the ants will carry those off the left side of the screen.

Current Version

Get it on Google Play
Until the new version is released continue to use the current version (0.7.93-3116-Beta). Also if you never found the Easter Egg (that has been in the game since the very first release) just remember that God is good all the time and all the time God is good! That Easter Egg won't make it to the new version but maybe I'll think of something new to hide in the new version.

Have you seen my latest app — CrossWord3D

Recently I started making another app with Unity! It uses both the verse of the day from Bible.com and from BibleGateway.com to generate daily 3D crossword puzzles. Check it (and my other free Christian apps) out on my developer page on the Play Store.
